Travel Rinse Repeat Is Going Abroad (Part II)
Last week, I announced that I’d be taking Travel Rinse Repeat overseas for the first time when I visit the Greek Islands this summer. It has been something I’ve always wanted to do since day one of starting this blog, and as I mentioned before, you’ll be seeing more international travel here in the future.
I also made note of how the Greek Islands weren’t the only place I’d be visiting in Europe. I’m also stopping a major European capital city en route to Greece.
I’M GOING TO BERLIN!
Since I was passing through anyways, I decided to stay a couple days and take advantage of being in the city.
This won’t be my first visit to Berlin. In 2008, I was in the city as part of a larger tour through Europe. It was absolutely one of my favorite cities that I visited in Europe and I’m happy to be headed back. It is such an incredible city with a really unique mix of recent history and cutting edge trends.
Also, I’m a big fan of Cold War History, and Berlin was ground zero for so much of what happened between the Americans and the Soviets after World War II.
I’ve always had a love for all things German – the food, the beer, the architecture – it’s one of my favorite cultures in the world, and I’ll always jump at the opportunity to experience it again.
But that’s not all, I have many other exciting trips in the works. I have plenty more weekend trips around the US coming up (Nashville, Orange County, and Austin are all in the works) and additional international trips will also be announced within the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned!
As always, I announced this trip on facebook first. If you want to stay up to date with where I’m headed next, as well as get additional content such as photos, tips, and links that I don’t share here, make sure you like my Facebook fan page.

I’m excited. Due to my short time there, i’ll probably have to pull on some old material from my previous trip to provide enough about the destination.
I’ve been to Berlin a couple times, both short stays, neither recent. A lot had changed between the two visits, and I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of what’s there. I did do one of the four-hour walking tours way back in 2000. It was definitely worth the time and money.

Exciting news! I love history as well and really enjoyed walking through the holocaust museum. Fun tidbit.. MJ’s baby-dangling was at Hotel Adlon’s across the street!

Haha definitely didn’t know that. I’ll have to make note of it.
I contemplated Berlin for my Go with Oh tour, but I decided I wanted to hit up Germany during October. Oktoberfest is on my bucket list, after all. I’m so excited to see your photos from this whole trip. I know I’ll want to hop on a plane after seeing them.

Oktoberfest will be an excellent time to visit! I’ve only ever been in the summer and I’m continuing that trend here.
Let us know when you are hitting Austin. I can recommend various places to see, great restaurants and music venues!
Will do! It likely won’t be until the fall once it cools down a bit, but I’ve heard so many good things about the city.
Wow..sounds fantastic John! Can’t wait to hear more about your trip to the Greek islands. Had just returned for a long weekend trip to Berlin. It’s definitely a fantastic city. loved it!

I’m excited to head back – any favorite buildings of yours in Berlin?
Layovers are the best! They give you a break from the long flight AND help you see additional exciting places! Enlarging the layovers so you could experience the additional place more is so much fun

i agree, I one time turned a layover in Costa Rica en route to Peru into a weeklong vacation there. I hadn’t even considered putting it on my itinerary but when I had to stop there anyways, I figured why not?
I really enjoyed Berlin. I only had a few days there, but it seemed like the type of place I’d like to live in for a month or so.
