Travel Rinse Repeat Is Going Abroad
While I’m constantly on the road for work and taking weekend trips twice a month, it has been a long time since I’ve actually taken a real vacation (six months, to be precise.) In that time, I’ve built up some paid-time-off at work and it’s time to take advantage of it. Rather than sitting at home and decompressing from the last year spent on the road, I’m jumping right back on a plane and going to….
GREECE!
That’s right, I’m going international and I’m taking Travel Rinse Repeat with me. In July I’ll be flying into Mykonos for nine days exploring the Greek Islands. In addition to Mykonos, I’ll be island hopping to Naxos, Paros, and Santorini.
Highlights will include:
- spectacular sunsets from Oia
- scuba diving in the blue waters of the Aegean
- black pebble beaches
- ancient Cycladic ruins
- drinking ouzo and kitron
- and more…
I’m looking forward to the sun, the beaches, the food, the bleached-white buildings clinging to the cliff sides, and sharing it all here at Travel Rinse Repeat.
But That’s Not All…
With no direct flights into Mykonos, I’ll be spending a couple days in my European gateway city. I’ll be announcing that later this week on my Facebook page (where I ALWAYS announce my upcoming travels first) so if you haven’t ‘liked’ the Travel Rinse Repeat Facebook page, make sure you do.
A Change In the Winds
Up until now, I’ve kept this blog exclusively about my travels around the United States with my job. I have never had the opportunity to talk about my international travels (well, I guess I did write about Canada…)
But starting with my trip to Greece, you’ll begin to see a few changes around here at Travel Rinse Repeat. I’m hoping to (slowly) turn my attention more towards international travel and not just the destinations I visit with work. What I don’t mention often on this blog is that international travel is also a huge passion of mine. While I don’t get to do it as much as I’d like with my work schedule, this blog (and reading awesome posts from my other travel blogger friends) has inspired me to make it more of a priority.
No, I’m not quitting my job to vagabond around the world, but in addition to Greece I do currently have a couple other international trips in the works for later in the year (with more details to follow once plans are firmed up.)
For the foreseeable future, the focus here will still be on where I’m traveling with my job – and I still anticipate that making up the majority of the content. But I am excited to explore more OUTSIDE the USA, outside North America, and outside my comfort zone for the first time here on Travel Rinse Repeat.
Until then, it’s back to the Wichita, Kansas where I’ll be dreaming of the cerulean waters of the Aegean…
Have you ever been to the Greek Islands? I’m still firming up my itinerary and would love to hear suggestions!

I’ll be honest, its hard to sit still thinking about that – it’s my first real international trip since starting this site.
Awesome! Looks like so much fun. Are you going with anyone?

I am! I’m going with a really good friend who actually lives in the gateway city I mentioned. She and I actually met on the road when I was in Costa Rica and have traveled together a few other times.
Have never been but am dying to go. Good timing!

I hope that it’s good timing what with the economy in shambles and all…
Very excited for you (& a touch jealous). Have some Moussaka and a little Ouzo for me

I don’t even know what Moussaka is yet…guess I’ll have to do some research!
How exciting! I’ve always wanted to go to Greece but haven’t had the chance. I look forward to reading about it (and seeing lots of great photos!).
It was one of the countries I missed on my grand tour of Europe in 2008 and I’ve been regretting it. I’ll make sure I take plenty of photos for you.
Glad to see you branch out on your range of topics…I’ve debated the same thing, especially with international travel being so much more “glamorous” than some of the domestic travel. I think it will work well on your blog! (mine, it would not…)

I realized that could have been an option when I started this site so I purposefully left the name a little vague – not related to business travel, not related to US travel – just travel.
Santorini is one of my fave places. Please take extra pics for me.

I’m sure I’m going to give my camera a good workout on this trip.
I have never been to Greece but it’s definitely on my list, can’t wait to see what you do!

Thanks Michelle! However I pulled these photos from Flickr, but I do agree, the colors are amazing. Hopefully I can do my best to create some similar shots when I visit.

John, I went to Greece for the first time last year. I went to Mykonos and Athens. Mykonos was phenomenal. Spent 4 days and I didn’t want to leave. Just a great place to relax, eat, people watch, and admire the sunsets. I can’t wait to go back. In fact, my challenge is thinking that I want to both explore more islands yet go to Mykonos which I so enjoyed! Nice problem, huh?

I wish I was going to Athens too, but this time it’s just the islands. I’ve heard great things about Mykonos and the other islands and I can’t wait to explore them more in depth. Hope you make it back one day.
I am doing a hiking trip in central Romania the second half of July and I am contemplating 3-4 days somewhere in the Greek Islands… I did talk to someone who had spent a cpl of years traveling the Mediterranean and the advice I got on the best island to see was Hydra (very close to Athens). I can’t vouch for the opinion but it put Hydra on my radar!

I’ve heard good things about Hydra too, if you end up going I want to hear about it!
Taking such a long vacation after working so hard sounds so exciting. I’ve never been to Greece, yet from photos I saw and stories I read, there’s a good chance you’ll have good time there
I actually like the fact that your blog has many posts about the States, yet now I’m curious where else you’re going!

I’m hoping so! I’ll be revealing the other destinations soon-ish. Tickets are booked but I have to finalize a few last details before announcing it here.
