The Travel Rinse Repeat Round Up

Travel Rinse Repeat Roundup August 14th, 2012

Welcome to the next edition of The Travel Rinse Repeat Roundup from Phoenix, Arizona. I just arrived after spending a long weekend in Telluride, Colorado, a beautiful mining town-turned posh ski resort in Southwestern Colorado. Waterfalls, hiking trails, and scenic vistas are abundant in this village nestled in a prominent box canyon in the San Juan mountains.

Unfortunately, the weekend was short and there is too much to see and do in just a couple days. But I can already tell that Telluride is one of those places I will return to – even though it’s almost a seven hour drive from my home in Denver.

I recently wrapped up my Nicaragua coverage, and soon I’ll be shifting my focus to Greece. But in the meantime, it’s time for another roundup.

The Lazy Travelers – Making A Case For Driving In Costa Rica – After my recent Nicaraguan adventure (including some car-sickness inducing rides over bumpy terrain) I can sympathize with those who’ve made a go of it in a rental car while traveling in Central America. But as The Lazy Travelers point out, there are definitely some benefits to having the flexibility of a vehicle.

Stay Adventurous – Sunset Sunday – Craig runs a great series on his site – Sunset Sundays. In it, he shares photos from some of his favorite sunsets he’s experienced around the world. A recent favorite of mine is his sunset photo from the Malecon in Mazatlan, Mexico. In it, he captures the spirit of this west coast Mexican town in all the subtle and nuanced colors of a sunset.

Captain and Clark – Why We Said No To Trying Dog Meat In Korea – Tawny and Chris take on the complex issue of eating dog meat while traveling in Korea. Balancing their desire for pushing their boundaries against their own personal ethical code, they take an impassioned look into their decision not to eat dog meat and provide a compelling argument for others grappling with the same decision.

Travel Edits – The Photo Edit – Lake Como - Lake Como is one of those dreamy Italian destinations, famous for attracting the famous (such as George Clooney.) In this photo essay, Fiona shares her unique views of Lake Como through her lens.

Travel Rinse Repeat Around The Web

The Planet D – Deb and Dave run a great series on their site all about travel inspiration. They were kind enough to allow me to share my most inspiring travel moment – an unexpected vacation to South America when a big project at work was cancelled. Though I risked losing my job, the trip was an eye opening experience. To read the whole story, check out my guest post at The Planet D.

yTravel Blog – I love my hometown of Denver, Colorado and I’m always eager to share travel tips for the Mile High City. So when the opportunity came up to write about what to do in Denver over at yTravelBlog, I jumped on it. In it, I share the best places to see, eat, and shop in the city I’ve called home for 22 years.

Budgeting In The Fun Stuff – Picking up free travel vouchers is one of my favorite ways of traveling for free (and it paid for my trips to both Nicaragua and Greece). I shared my tips about how I earned $1200 in free flight vouchers in ONE DAY over at the personal finance blog ‘Budgeting in the Fun Stuff’.

Upcoming Travels

Denali - Alaskaphoto credit

Alaska has been right at the top of my list for domestic travel over the last several years, and in September, I’ll finally be touching down in America’s final frontier. Over the course of 11 days, I’ll be road tripping around the massive state, from the city of Anchorage down to the fjords of the Kenai peninsula and wrapping up with a few days in Denali National Park.

Have you ever been to any of these places in Alaska? Do you have any recommendations for me? Let me know!
